CARE OF THE FINISHING

All metal based ironmongery products require regular cleaning to prevent product deterioration due to environmental factors so please consider the care information below.

PLATED FINISHES

Occasionally wipe the product with a soft clean cloth and clean it with a non-abrasive wax polish to help you maintain a plated finish.

POLISHED AND LACQUERED FINISHES

Clean polished and lacquered finishes with a damp cloth moistened with soapy water or wipe it with a soft cloth using a non-abrasive wax polish. Note that the life of the lacquer on most items is limited and it will eventually break down. Adverse conditions such as industrial pollution, sea air, acid rain, abrasion etc. and repeated continual handling may even cause the coating to deteriorate prematurely.

BLACK AND PEWTER ANTIQUE FURNITURE

Whilst our manufacturers make every effort to make items avoid rusting, it is essential that you regularly maintain Iron especially when used externally. Occasional light oiling is highly recommended by wiping the items with a lightly oiled cloth. This will help prevent a build-up of harmful deposits that cause corrosion.

STAINLESS STEEL

Whilst stainless steel is a strong durable material, it will if not regularly maintained show signs of rusting. This is common in coastal areas or areas with aggressive atmospheres such as a swimming pool. We therefore recommend that you regularly clean items with a dry cloth or duster. Periodically wash the item with warm soapy water and then dry with a clean cloth and wipe it occasionally with a good quality silicone wax polish.

APPLIED FINISHES

Applied finishes such as bronze, rustic, tin and black nickel should be cleaned similarly to the polished and lacquered finishes. It must be noted that due to the way this finish is applied, products may vary between batches.

*It should also be noted that these finishes will wear over time.

ALL FINISHES

Under no circumstances should you clean these products with abrasive cleaners or acid based products.
